Dr. Cunningham to Continue At Plant Research Station

MINISTER’S ANNOUNCEMENT.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Dr. G. H. Cunningham, who recently resigned, his position in charge of the Plant Research station at Palmers, .on North,. will continue his services at the station, said Hon. D. G. Sullivan to-day. Mr Sullivan said the Government had been impressed with the increasing need for attention to scientific research in the problems of protection of plants from disease, and in addition to the improvements to the facilities at the Plant Research Station at Palmerston, arrangements have been made for a continuance of Dr. Cunningham’s services.

This news, Mr Sullivan said, would no doubt be welcomed by the various agricultural and fruit interests which had made representations to the Government on tho subject. Some months ago Dr. Cunningham had intimated his desire to resign from the Government service with a view to proceeding with work overseas, but because of the improved facilities, etc., Dr. Cunningham had now signified his desire to continue with the department in his research in plant diseases and arrangements have been made by the Public Service Commissioner accordingly.
