Mr A. Clifton Duncan, who has been staying with his parents at “Clifton, ” Fitzherbcrt, has returned to Wellington. His friends will be pleased to Know that he was successful in passing his finals for accountancy. Mr Duncan was a former pupil of tho Palmerston North Boys’ High School.

A car being driven out of a right-of-way in liaugitikei street just before G o’clock last evening met a motorcyclist named Allan Loylaud, of 239 College street, Palmerston North, in collision, with tho unfortunate result that Loylaud sufllesed a broken leg. He was taken to tho hospital by the Free Ambulance. His condition this morning was satisfactory.

Large numbers of ratepayers visited the City Council offices yesterday to pay their rato demands beforo the addition of the customary 10 per cent, penalty, to which all unpaid rates become liablo to-day. The amount that passed over tho counter could not be ascertained yesterday, but is expected to bo very heavy.

The death occurred at Nelson yesterday oh Mr Leonard .Robertson after a fairly lengthy illness. Deceased, at one time was employed by the Wanganui Education Board as a builder and participated in the erection of Central school and other educational buildings in the district. For a number of years since he had been in business m Nelson as a builder and contractor. Mr F. Robertson, of Cook street, Palmerston North, is a brother. lie leaves a wife and one son. <s><s><s><s>

A small boy of between seven and eight years of age, who resides with his parents at Woodvillc, was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital about six weeks ago suffering from tetanus, one of the most formidable and in New Zealand fortuuatoly rare, diseases of the nervous system. Thanks, however, to skilful medical treatment, he was able to leave the institution recently fully recovered. He was treated with large doses of anti-tetanus scrum which proved its worth. It is not known from what source the infection was contracted.
