PERSONALITIES
The death has occurred at Palmerston North of Mr George Henry Smith, aged 75, of Packakariki. Deceased spent the early days of his Hfo in Wellington prior to his parents’ moving to Kaikoura, but on attaining his manhood he commenced farming operations at Stanley Brook, Richmond, Nelson, which was then a very sparsely settled countryside. Fifty-four years ago ho married Miss Edith Haycock, a daughter of the lato Mr John Haycock, a run-holder in tho Nelson district. In addition to his widow, thoro arc left to mourn their loss a family oi three sous and three 'daughters, the members being Messrs S. Smith (Nelson), J. Smith (Christchurch), and L. Smith (Packakariki), and Mesdames A. A. Smith (Napier road, Palmerston North), L. Mills (Now Plymouth) and U. Jamieson (Chertscy, Canterbury). Uno son, Arthur, made the supreme sacrifico in tho Great War, being killed in France three months prior to the Armistice, after having been on service for four years. There are also ill) grandchildren and five great-grandchil dren. Mrs Frank Marshall, of Wellington, is a sister of the deceased, and Mr William Smith, of Kaiapoi, is his only surviving brother.
