Air Mail Between Two Islands Urged
WOULD REDUCE TIME BY HALF,
Per Press Association,
CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night
The establishment of an air mail between the North and South Islands is Lieing urged by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce which this evening sent the following telegram signed by the president (Mr F. \V. Hobbs; to the Postmaster-general (Hon. F. Jones): — “The business community of Christchurch feel very strongly that now the new air service has been started, an air mail should bo part of it. If your department is not already making arrangements for this to be done this Chamber would welcome the opportunity of meeting you to urge the immediate institution of an air mail ser-
vice. ”
With an air mail service as proposed it would be possible to post a letter here at midday to catch the aeroplane leaving at 1.12 p.m. arriving in Palmerston North at 3.37 p.m., connecting with the Main Trunk express and arriving in Auckland early in tne morning. A reply posted at Auckland 'he same evening and carried by railway express would catch tbo aeroplane at Palmerston North at *,30 a.m. next day and arrive in Cuvistehureh at I'J.oo a.m. This would reduce the time taken by letters in transit to one-half. This expedition, it is argued, would bo of special value in dealing with overseas mail via Vancouver.
