Although the shootiug season for godwit opened at the beginning of this month, few sportsmen have availed themselves of tho early opening of the season, and not a great deal of shooting has yet taken place, says the Auckland Herald. However, godwit are scarce, and those sportsmen who have been on the Manukau HaTlour, or on the upper Waitemata Harbour and other places about Auckland where good shooting is almost invariably found, havo obtained poor bags, very few godwit having been seen. The attitude of the Department of Agriculture in its requirements that blackberry, as a noxious weed, be cleared from farm lands by March 31st was criticised at the Horowhenua County Council meeting on Saturday. By the time the regulations were enforced, it was -dated, blackberry had seeded, and the legislation for its control was thps futile.- To be effective, clearing of blackberry, and also of sweet briar, should be carried out in January, and upon the motion of Cr. A. M. Colquhoun, it-was decided that the attention of the Minister of Agriculture be drawn to gkg position, -
