Death From Exposure

AIRMAN POUND AT BOGNOR. United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, Jan. 10. At the inquest into the death of Flying-Officer Philip Butler, who was found floating on a raft off Bogncr on Wednesday, evidence was given that death was duo to exposure and shock. A wound in his head which had displaced an eye might have been caused by the muzzle of a marine distress signal which the rough sea thrust back when Flying-Officer Butler was using is as a paddle. A verdict was returned in accordance with the evidence.

The finding of the body of FlyingOfficer Butler on a canvas raft, floating in the sea off Craigwell House, Bognor (where his Majesty stayed during convalescence), wearing a full flying hit and an oxygen lifebelt, ended the search for the machine which disappeared on Tuesday after leaving the aircraft-carrier Furious on wireless exercises. Butler’s wireless operator was not found.
