BUT AUSTRALIA DOESN’T 'WANT? A FLOOD
United Press Association—By Electrle Telegraph.—Copyright.
Received Friday, 11.30 p.m. CANBERRA, Jan. 10. The Minister for the Interior (Mr Paterson) states that the Federal Government has not yet formulated any definite plan regarding a migration arrangement with Britain. The responsibility for absorbing migrants would fall upon the States, and in view of this the States would be fully consulted at the next Premiers’ conference before any action was
taken. Mr Paterson added that obviously nothing could be contemplated that would result in a flood of migration, hut the unemployment figures had fallen amazingly and were now the lowest for many years. The resumption of migration in some degree could at least be considered.
