MAY BE TRANCE’S YEAR English writers reckon'there is a possibility of more, than ono of that'Country's classics going to Erench-bred horses this year.

Bearing on this, the racing contributor to the London Observer recently wrote as follows: “Erench-bred horses have done extraordinarily well in English racing this year, and as many more have been brought here in .the last few months they may do even better in 1936. ";jW a have before us the not very exhilarating prospect that three-year-olds bred in France may carry off the bulk of our classic prizes. Abjer is one I have in mind for the Guineas and the Derby, and for the fillies' race it is impossible to overlook the claims of Mr Edward Edmond’s Mistress Ford, one of the best two-year-olds seen on the other side of the Channel for some time past.” Mistress Ford was not beaten at two years, and, as she won at a mile, that distance is not likely to trouble her in the One Thousand. She is by Bland ford. Sansonnet and Tideway are reckoned best of the English iillies.

Captain' J. F. Lee-Barber, who was credited with being one of the greatest steeplechase riders tho British Army has known, committed suicide in England in November, at tho age of 82. Captain Leo-Barber rode four times in the Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase.
