According to a Wellington message Autopay is booked to go under the hammer at the Trentham sales .this month. The trainer J. T. Jamieson returned to the Dominion from Sydney on Monday. ’Refresher's double win and a third placed Mr. F. Calvert at tho head of the winning owners’ list at Stratford with £340, and Davistock’s win in the Stratford Cup set Mr. A. H. Trotter second with £260 (including cup valued at £50.) A Dunedin message states it is reported that the Dunedin Jockey Club has good prospects of getting Silver Ring, Kinnoull and Heritage to contest the Hazlett Gold Cup next month. These three horses should make a big attraction for tho Cup meeting.

Among tho horses sold at tho Riddiford dispersal salo two years ago was Zetes, who had earned fame for the record price of 2400gns ho brought as a yearling, and at the 50gns Mr. B. H. Winchester, of Reefton, paid for him ho has been quite a profitable purchase. In his first five races in his new colours ho was placed, and last season ho won three events and filled minor places seven times. During the recent holidays he was again a winner at Greymouth, and then scored a double at Reefton on Tuesday.

■GROUCH ON HANDICAPPERS Whenever I hear trainers growling about the treatment of their horses, it occurs to me that if it could bo arranged for each trainer to send in the weight his horse should receive in a handicap of some importance we should have interesting estimates, writes “Pilot” in the Sydney Referee. They would be amusing, if nothing else, in some instances. It would he safe to bot that each estimate. wouLd be on a low scale, and that there would bo more growling about the “other fellow’s ideas” than there is now in respect of those of the official handicapper. Some trainers do know when they are well, or badly, treated, but others are very uncertain on that point.

"I was beaten last run with such-and-such a weight. Why should I have more this time?” is as far as some can get. The fact of other horses having gone up, and the company, possibly, being weaker than when their horse previously failed, does not count with some, .
