MAE WEST LEADS THE FILM STARS.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Wednesday, 9.50 pm. WASHINGTON, Jan. 7. The names of 18,000 individuals in America receiving annual compensation in excess of 15,000 dollars during 1934 are published by a Congressional Committee. Tho number in incomes in excess of 100,000 dollars was found to be far from rare. Among the motion picture people, Mae West led tne list with 339,000 dollars. Others were Marlene Deitrich, 145,000 dollars, W. C. fields, 155,000 dollars; Miriam Hopkins, 71,000 dollars; Gary Cooper, 139,000 dollars; Charles Chaplin, 143,000 dollars; Claudette Colbert, 85,000 dollars. George Hill, president of the American Tobacco Company, led business executives with 187,000 dollars. In the newspaper field, Wiliiam Randolph Hearst received round 500,000 dollars salary from various enterprises while his editorial writer, Arthur Brisbane, received 235,000 dollars.
