Big administrative changes made necessary by the Uovcrnmcnt’s coming Bill for the raising of the school-leaving ago to 15 years and improvement of the education services arc announced. They include, firstly, re-organisation of the elementary schools to provide the extra accommodation required to remedy defective premises and reduce the size of classes; secondly, an increase from 500 to 560 in the number of State scholarships from secondary schools to the university and an increase in the value of each scholarship from £SU per annum to a figure not yet fixed. This will mean on the basis of an average course of three years that there will always be 1000 State-supported undergraduates at Universities. Thirdly, better provision for technical and art education.
