STATE THEATRE. "THE GAY DECEPTION.” The effervescent charm, intriguing good looks and remarkable comedy talents of .Francis Eederer are to the fore again at 'the State theatre to-day, where the romantic Czech star heads the cast of Fox Film’s ”..ie Gay Deception.” In this light-hearted, inspired comedy, which sweeps you along in its gusty comedy sequences, Eederer has recaptured for the screen that intangible something which created his sensational success on the Broadway stage. Mounted and dressed with the lavish beauty and colour of a Jesse E. Easky production, "The Gay Deception” • whirls its principals. Lederer and Frances Dee, through an hilarious series of comedy adventure to a joyous romantic climax. The gay deceivers of the film are this pair: Eederer, a prince masquerading as a member of the staff In an ultra-luxur-ious hotel, and Miss Dee, who is having a fling on some money she has won and pretending to be an heiress. When they meet she of course resents the attention of a mere menial, but Eederer persists in paying court. Eederer resumes his royal title and the situations are reversed, and when he is arrested as an impostor through some sort of misunderstanding, the hilarity reaches its peak.

There are still more laugh punches left in the script as the picture races to its surprise climax and to the happy resolution of the romance of these two lighthearted pretenders. Miss Dee, who has long been one of Hollywood's first rank performers, renders a sensitive, intelligent performance. Others in the cast whose performances are outstanding are Alan Mowbray. Benita Hume. Eennox Pawle. Akim Tamiroff and Liortei Stander.

William Wyler’s deft, fast-paced direction of this sterling comedy casts more than a little to "The Gay Deception’s” excellence. Don’t miss this show. It’s the laugh hit of the year!
