Administration of Waihi Hospital
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER Per Press Association. WAIIII, Jau. 7. Tho Minister of Health and Education (Hon. P. Fraser), accompanied by the Director-General of Health (Dr. M. H. Watt), was in Waihi yesterday The principal reason for tho Minister’s visit was to discuss the question of the administration of the Waihi Hospital with members of the hospital board. This was done last evening, but no information of the proceedings tvas made available to the Press. A deputation representing the Farmers' Union pointed out anomalies that existed. They said that people living just outside the Waihi Borough, with which they had a community of interest, were forced to travel 40 miles to the Thames Hospitul for treatment. They desired to have the Waihi boundaries extended so that they would be in tho Waihi Hospital area. The Minister said that the position seemed absurd when people within a quarter of a mile of the hospital could not be treated uuless they were urgent cases. Dr. Watt said the position iu regard to the Waihi Hospital district and tho immediately adjacent areas was the most difficult problem of its kiud in New Zealand. The Minister promised to investigate and, if necessary, to appoint a commission. The hospital board conference resumed this morning. The Minister will join the Limited at Franktou Junction to-night for Wellington, to attend a Cabinet meeting.
