Further interest was added to Waitarere’s attractions on Sunday by the presence of two aeroplanes from Palmerston North belonging to the Mana- ( watu Aero Club, which carried out a , brisk trade in short passenger flights throughout the afternoon. The large crowd upon the beach was well entertained by an impressive aerobatic display by one of the machines, while a further big thrill was provided by a parachute descent made by Pilot- j Officer “Scotty Eraser.” Java, a country almost exactly half j the sizo of New Zealand, carries a j population of forty millions. This fact was commented upon by Mr. J. Tat- s tersall, of Napier, who has just re- ] turned from a nine months’ trip to j the Old Country. Mr. Tattcrsall, who flew over Java in an aeroplane, bo longing to the Boyal Dutch line, . stated that a feature of the country was the extremely concentrated cultivation.
