Damages Against Toilet Specialist
WOMAN’S SCALP BURNED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Damages amounting to £lO7 ISs lid wore awarded by Mr. Reid, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day in a claim for compensation for injuries received by Ethei Clive Beddis (plaintiff) wheu undergoing hair treatment given by Doreen Burke, toilet specialist (defendant). Plaintiff’s scalp was burned in several places and it was alleged that a serious illness followed lasting several months.
The Magistrate said he was satisfied there was in the case an element of what was known as litigation neurosis. In assessing damages ho would have to adopt the view that some part of plaintiff’s ailment was due to this cause. It was true that in a normal person the burns might liavo healed in a few weeks, but plaintiff was not a normal person, being prone to neurasthenia. Of the total sum awarded the Magistrate gave £SO as general damages and the rest as medical and nursing expenses,
