Co-opted For Public Works
Mr J. Hodgens’ Job in Parliament
In pursuance of the policy of the Labour Government to give every member, of Parliament a definite place in the development of its plans by assigning members to the departments in which their- talents and training have best fitted them, Mr. J. Hodgens, M.P. for Palmerston, has been co-opted by the Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Semple. Mr. Hodgens accompanied Mr. Semple on his tour of Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay, returning to this city last evening with Mr, Semple. “In my opinion,” said the Minister to a “Times” representative last evening, “Mr. Hodgens will be a most valuable associate in my work. His practical experience as a builder will be of the greatest assistance, as was exemplified during my inspection of the East Coast railway.” Mr. Hodgens said the visit was an eyeopener to him, and he agreed entirely with the conclusions drawn by the Minister from his inspection of the line.
