Pahiatua Croquet Club

OPENING OF SEASON

The Pahiatua Croquet Club held its official opening day on Wednesday, when Mrs J. D. C. Crewe congratulated members on tho flue appearance of the lawns. Among the visitors from outside Pahiatua were a carload from the Eket'ahuna Club. Mrs J. D. Wilson (Mayoress) hit the first ball through the hoop, and after this competitions took place, these being won as follow: — Half-hour play, Miss Anderson (Eketahuna); angles, Mrs Hankers; ladder. Mrs Berry; hurry-scurry, Mrs W. A. Cittadini and Mrs Hankers. A competition for a dinner was w'On by Miss Anderson, of Eketahuna, and during the afternoon tea w T as served to all. The club membership has shown a substantial increase, and tho vacancies caused by the resignation of members leaving the district have been more than filled. Altogether the club may look forward with confidence to a very successful year.
