Bulls Town Board

MONTHLY MEETING HELD. The monthly meeting’ o£ the Town Board was held on Thursday evening. Present: Cmrs. J. E. Walker (chairman), F. A. Holland, A. W. Amon, J. J. Mansell and D. A. Lundy. Leave of absence tv as granted to Cmrs. C. E. Edwards and C. O. Price. Foreman’s Report.—-Foreman S. Howard reported on work done for the month ending December 12 as follows: Engaged digging drain at back of town hall, and filling in after pipes had been put in; concreting footpath in Upper Bridge street, repairing culvert at Gorton street corner; scything grass on footpaths in Johnston, Gorton, Flower, Daniel, Criterion and Bridge sireeis; grubbing weeds on footpath in Criterion street, and carting them away. Cleaned out a water table in High street, and deepened drain on Turaltina road. The path leading to the tennis courts has been metalled with screened metal. A lire break has been harrowed, on the recreation grounds. Paths have been mowed at the cemetery. The foreman was instructed to repair a small bridge on the domain. Noxious Weeds. The Rangitikei County Council asked for co-operation in coping with noxious weeds, and the Town Board agreed to declare the following noxious weeds in the Town Board's area: Pennyroyal, ox-eye, daisy, foxglove, goatsrue, hemlock,' tutsan and variegated or milk thistle.

Building Permit. —Messrs Batchelar and Mclndoe applied for permission to erect a residence, garage and office for the Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board in Parewanui road.—The plans being in order, a permit was granted. Correspondence.—From the Municipal Association of N.Z., regarding conference to be held in Napier on March 4, 1936. Received. X i 'rom the Department of Internal Affairs, advising members of particulars of the Urban Farm Rating Amendment Act, 11)35.—Received. From the town clerk, Petone, regarding Butt Park camp site. —Received. Finance.—The following accounts were passed for payment: District fund, 3181 14s lid; library, £3 ss; and domain, 9s 6d, collections for the month were shown as follows: Rates, £37 16s 3d; rents, £32 9s; heavy traffic licenses, £S3 llis lid; road grader, £7 10s; footpath and drainpipes, £7 9s lid; cemetery, £6 15s; library rents, £2; library subscriptions, £1 3s; domain, £1 12s.—Total, £IBO 12s Id. lialf-holiday.—lt was decided to called meeting on Thursday, January 9, 1936, at 7.55 p.nt., to decide the day of the statutory half-holiday. Dog Tax.—lt was decided to issue summonses against all owners of dogs who have not paid this year’s dog tax. The tax for the coming year will be as before,' viz., 5s for all dogs except working dogs, owners of which will bo charged 2s 6d Mr D. 11. Douglas was teappolnted dog-tax colled or for the ensuing year.

Valuer.—Mr F. Cutts was re-appointed valuer for the coming year. Unpaid Rates.—lt was decided that 10 per cent, bo added to all rates unpaid by January 20, 1936.

Works Committee.—Tho following were appointed for tho next month: Cmrs. Mansell, Price and Amon.

Cocksfoot.—Permission was granted L. Capstick to cut cocksfoot on the recreation ground, subject to payment of 10s for tho rights. Mower.—Cmr. Lundy reported on a mower which tho 'Wanganui City Council had for sale; also another mower which he had inspected.—Finalisation of the matter was held over until tho Wanganui engineer could deal with the matter. Christmas Greetings.—Tho chairman said that as this was the last meeting before the holidays, he thanked members, the town clerk and the for their co-operation during the past year, and wished them all a "glorious Christmas.” He also extended his good wishes to members of the Press. Cmr. Holland spoko on behalf of members, and after reciprocating Cmr. Walker's good wishes, paid a tribute to him as chairman, the work of tho board being carried out expeditiously while the meetings passed off very smoothly. The clerk, the foreman and a Press representative each briefly thanked the chairman for his remarks. Proficiency Examinations.

Of the fifteen pupils of tho Bulls school presented for the proficiency examinations last week, fourteen were successful In gaining proficiency certificates, and ono competency.
