Seniors Start New latches New games were started in tho Palmerston North senior cricket competition on Saturday, when a glorious summer ’s day favoured tho sport. HONOURS BOARD. Batsmen. Moloney (Palmerston) 78 Robertson (Palmerston) 67 Fletcher (High School) 52 M. Onglcy (Palmerston) 44 Bowlers. Gavey (C.C.) 1 for 3 C. Me Vicar (C.C.) 4 for 36 Carter (United) 1 for 5 Waldegravo (Old Boys) .... 5 for 43 HIGH SCHOOL’S MODEST BEGINNING. High School, batting on their own ground, made a modest scoro of 131 against Old Boys, although they occupied tho crease most of the afternoon. K. Fletcher, who went in at fourth wicket, was tho only one to break the half-century, but his 52 did not include many big shots. Ho held his wicket for two hours and was confident though cautious throughout. Young (30) was tho only ono of the others to make a good stand. was consistently successful as a bowler, and took 5 wickets for 43 runs, Old Boys had only 35 minutes in which to open up, and they made a good beginning with ono wicket gone for 38 runs. Young early lost his wicket to Stewart, but McKay and Spring continued brightly, placing their shots well. Given a good wicket next week, Old Boys should be able to better the High School total. Y.M.C.A. MEET CITY COUNCIL. With a display of past form, City Council should have no difficulty in overtaking Y.M.C.A. ’s meagro total of 131. The fielding was exceptionally keen as is evidenced by the number of batsmen run out. Just beforo stumps G. Wheatley took up the running and gave a short, forceful display, putting on 14 in as many minutes. When fielding for Council ho held two catches at mid-off. Gavey accounted for Hastilow in the long field. Y.M.C.A. —First Innings.
