INSTITUTE SHOW AT AOKAUTERE

Fine Flowers. Cooking And Needlework Display

The Aokautore Women’s Institute staged a very successful flower show on Wednesday last. Tho president (Mrs A. Greves) extended a welcome to all present and expressed the thanks of the committee to all who had so willingly helped in every way. The show w'us officially opoued by Mrs W. G. Short, secretary of the Northern Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes, who spoke enthusiastically of the enterprise shown by the local Institute in holding this event annually. It was very encouraging to see the manner in which all mombors of this small Instituto had entered into the spirit of the show 7 , for in this way they had helped to make it the success it w r as. Mrs Short spoke briefly of the aims and ideals of tho Women’s Institute movement and concluded her remarks by wishing the local Institute many years of success, wffiiek could only como through tho happy co-operation of all its members.

Mrs Barnicoat, of Kimbolton, who, with Mrs Short, had judged the needlework and thrift sections, spoko warmly of tho high standard of work in these sections, and said that many of the articles exhibited would bo highly placed in any open competition. Tho flower section, judged by Mr Gallaud, and the decorative section, judged by Mrs Gallaud, brought forward au excellent numbor of ontries, despite tho bud w 7 eather experienced prior to the show. In tho cooking section, which was judged by Mrs Wiggins, the usual largo number of entries and the excellence of same were maintained. Tho list of awards is as follows: Flowers. Tho hall was later clearod for dancing, the music for which was provided by a professional orchestra. After supper, the president presented the special and points prizes won during the day, and thanked all who had so kindly helped in every way. Dancing was continued till a late hour, extras being supplied by Miss J. Burling and Alessrs R. Brill and L. Craven. A lucky gay gordons was won by Aliss N. Brill and Air W. Tait, while an iced cake donated by Alessrs Boniface Bros., was won by Air J. Gosling, of Opiki. Air AL Kristensen carried out the duties of AI.C. 4 Special and Points Prizes.
