France and Germany Getting Together
MOVE TOWARD NEW UNDERSTANDING United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copywright. LONDON, Nov. 21. The News-Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent says that, as the first move to a new understanding between France and Germany, Hitler had a two hours' conference with M. Francois Poncet, the French Ambassador, in tho presence of Baron von NTSurath, after which a communique announced that (he conversation W'as of a most friendly character and afforded an opportunity of establishing goodwill between both Governments. It is understood that M. Poncet yesterday received M. Laval’s instructions to make a whole-hearted effort to remove x raneo-German tension, at which British diplomacy is also aimed. It is believed that he and Hitler discussed the possibility of checking an armaments race. M. Laval, in order to please Germany, delayed ratification' of tho FrancoRussian treaty which M. Herriot concluded, and also moderated his attitude to Italy, owing to Germany being a nonmember of the Leaguo. It is expected that Herr Ribbentrop will now visit M. Laval.
