There were 15 starters in the Maiden Race in which two Trentham-train-ed nurse., had the finish to themselves, Shy having a iongth advantage over Conversion at the post. Meritor was away aln I of Earl Colossus, Shy and Hippolyta, but they had not gone far before Hippolyta was setting the pace followed by Conversion, Shy, Golden Chest, Earl Colossus, Ruenzori, Middle and Sunder. There was little al.-ration crossing the top whero Conversion was just in front of Hippolyta. Hippolyta cried enough at the home turn and Conversion, Shy, Golden Chest, and Ruenzori wero first to turn for home. In the run to the judge Shy and Conversion drew out, Shy winning nicely by a length. Middle was threo longths away from the second horse a head in front of Golden Chest. Next homo were Sundor, Eucnzori, Merry Night and Frugal. Easy for Debut. The hurdles proved the best of things for Debut, who drew away over the last half mile and won easily by over eight lengths. Gaswyn was with him at the half a mile, but his jo'ck-c-j lost his irons and that so. -a what chances he h 1. Debut was, tho leader over tho first hurdle with Thrasher and Gaswyn noxt, and tho order through the straight was Debut, Gaswy ~ Otaura King, Royal King, Thrashe., Tambo and Affliction. Debut and Gaswyn wero together well eloar of the others, turning, into tho back and at the fence live furlongs from home Royal King tipped out, interfering with Tambo and Affliction. Celeritas also fell at that fence. There wero only threo left- iu it crossing tho top and at the home turn Debut, who was jumping splendidly, drew right away to win as ho liked. Gaswyn was second, three lengths in front of Otaura King and Tambo was fourth, followed by Spender and Thrasher. , Alcides Improves. Always well piaeed in the running. Alcides was in charge at tho bottom of the straight and, shaken up at the finish he responded well to win the Weraroa Hack by a.length 1 and a half from Confiscation, who was just, ahead of Midacre. When the field had settled down Midacre was showing the way followed by Alcides, Confiscation, Whetuma, Coienso and Manulele. There was not much change going down tho back, but that Trimden wont up very fast into third place, the order into the straight being Midacre closely attended by Alcides and Trimden, then Confiscation, Coienso, AVhetnma, and Umpire. Alcides had charge at tho bottom of the straight and when Confiscation challenged Pino called on Alcides, who responded and won nicely, Confiscation cutting Midacro out of s'-oud money, the margin between them being a neek. Umpire was fourth followed by Terry and Wheluma, almost on terms, Coienso, Vince and Trimden. Gay. Boy Sees It Out. Hunting Lodge was favourite for ,tho Levin Handicap, but she was beaten into third place by Gay Boy and Slippery. There was no pace on over the earlier part, the order passing the stands being Mercian Prince, Gay Boy, Eminent, Hunting Lodge, and Slippery. It was unchanged into the back where Hunting Lodge ranged up alongside Eminent. The pace quickened at the five and the fold closed up at tho far turn. Mercian Prince dropped out at tho homo turn and Gay Boy led into the straight with Hunting Lodge and Eminent next, then Slippery. In a good finish Gay Boy stuck to his task and ho beat the fast finishing Slippc by a baio length. Hunting Lodge was a length further back third and F linent fourth.

State Bank Beats Whyte Melville State Bank and Whyte Melville were sorted out as tho likely ones for the Ivlako Mako Hack, and tho punters wero right, State Bank winning from Whyte Melville by a very narrow margin. When tho field had settled down Whyte Mclvillo was showing tho way, followod by State Bank, Princess La Jean, Garter Bed and Myriam. Running to tho far turn Princess La Jean received a setback, losing her position. Blue Mauritius was in third place threo furlongs from homo and Whyte Melville was on terms with State Bank turning for home. Garter Rod was noxt ahead of Myriam and Blue Mauritius. la the run to tho judgo Whyte Melville and Stato Bank drow away from tho others, Stato Bank getting the decision by a head. Garter P-d was third threo lengths away and Myriam and Golden Enterprise wero next. Great Performance by Round Score Starting from near tbo outsido of the field, last but ono going out of the straight, knocked back at tne five frrlongs, tenth threo furlongs from homo, eighth wide out coming into the straight, Round Score did wonderfully well to wiu t.lio. Lako Hack Cup. Ho was favourite in a big pool and with 9.0 in the saddle he needed ail the assistance 13. H. Morris was able to givo him, plus a big heart, to pull it eff against Pokiha, who made it very hard over the fast few strides, the

margin betweon them at the finish being only half a head. It was a great race and it was a gaialnt performance on the part of the winner. Treasure Hunt led out of tho straight from Darecourt, Pokiha, Imasurvey, Manawatu, Dorado, Whetuma and Umpire. The leaders were unchanged going mio tho back, and at tho three furlongs Treasure Hunt and Dorado were howling along in front two lengths ahead of Darecourt, with Pokiha, Umpire, Whetuma, Cloudy Bay, Manawatu, Imasurvey and Round Score following. Treasure Hunt, Dorado and Darecourt were on terms entering the home stretch with Pokiha, Cloudy Bay, Umpire, Manawatu and Round Score following in that order. The issue was still woll in the air at the distance, but Round Score was galloping bruuantly and he got to the front, but was immediately challenged by Pokiha, and in a desperato finish ho hung on to win by a sliort head. Darecourt was a length and a-haif away third, anu Manaw'-Ti a good fourth, followed by Pawky, Dorado, Whetuma, Cloudy Bay and Umpire. Jubilee Song Wins Decisively

The seven-furlong sprint 'was a, fivehorse race for which Jubile Song and Slippery were solidly supported, x*u e made the pace followed by Miss Hushabye, Ephiaites, Slippery and Jubilee Song, and that wa3 tho order into the back stretch, where Jubilee Song moved up ahead of Slippery. At the far turn Ephiaites was in second place but Jubilee Song, Miss Hushabye and Slippery “set it alight” as they raced for the home turn, Jubilee Song leading into the straight closely attended by Miss Hushabye. Jubileo Song -"s soon challenged, but when shaken up by Jenkins he responded and he beat Slippery by a length and a-half. Miss Hushabye was third two lengths back and Ephiaites was fourth. Quake Wins Well from Topthom There were ten starters for the concluding event over five furlongs, Boomerang and Buzaino being entrusted with most support. There was some delay at tho start and when tho barrier went up there was a wild race for positions, the early leaders being Topthorn, from Tommy Atkins and Qualm. Then camo Vivienne, Collodion, Boomerang and Zionist. Thero was little change in tho order crossing the top and Topthom turned for home ciosely followed by Quake, with Vivionno and Boomerang next. In the run to tne judge Topthom and Quake drew away from tho others, and although Topthorn hung on doggedly, Quake had -s measure over tho final bit, winning nicely by over a length. - Boomerang was three lengths back third and Vivienno close up fourth.
