Trade With New Zealand
I read with interest the letter frpm Mr H, T. B. Drew on tho subject of trado with New Zealand. I fully support his statements, and feel sure that tho following information will be of .interest. All values arc expressed in New Zealand currency, writes a correspondent of tho Farmer and Stockbreeder (Englund). Now. Zealand’s exports to Britain in tho year ended March, 1935—£37,879,000. New Zealand -buys from Britain (imports)—£l6,437,ooo. Britain buys from New Zealand—£29,B79,ooo. New Zealand pays interest, public and private, to Britain —£12,500,000. Imports plus intorest—£2B,937,ooo. Per head of population for 1933 — Now Zealand, £6 10s 8d; Australia, £3 6s 8d; Canada, £1 15s 9d; Soviet [ Russia, 6d. i Therefore, for £IOO of produce BriJ tain buys from New Zealand sho buys £55 from us, and also pays £4l 10s interest; total—£96 10s. Tho difference as between New Zealand exports to Britain and Britain’s imports from Now Zealand (8 million) is accounted for in re-exports.. Thus wo find New Zealand one of our very best customers, especially if wo bear in mind her population and compare our mutual trado with tho Russian Od.
