Women's Institutes

AWAHURI. There was a good attendance of members at the usual monthly meeting held on Wednesday, over which Mrs 13. O. Bond presided. A special welcome was extended to Mrs Hickford senior. An invitation was received from Kairanga institute to attend an afternoon on December 10. Also several letters of thanks from members of the Blind Institute. The beautiful cushion made and given by Miss Y. Bennett was much admired. Congratulations were extended to Mrs C. Hickford and Mrs Jones. It was decided to hold another of the popular functions (euchre and dance) to take place on December 6. A professional orchestra has been engaged and a cordial welcomo is extended to all members of sister Institutes. Misses MaeCallum and Gouldon are in charge of a competition kindly donated by Mrs Simpson. The biscuit competition results were: Mrs W. MaeCallum 1, Mrs Port 2, Mrs J. Giles 3; flower competition, Miss Hancock 1, Mrs Mail- 2, Miss Henson 3. A very interesting demonstration was given by Mrs Hickford in making of paper flowers, the finished specimens of daffodils and roses looking very real. The .hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs W. MaeCallum and Misses Mooro- and Matthews. The December meeting will be held ono week earlier (December 11) and will take the form of a social afternoon. The junior members under the leadership of Miss Henson, will provide the programme. Thero will also be a Christmas stall.
