Feilding A. and P. Association

GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING Tho general committee of tho Feilding A. and P. Association met last evening, Air. H. J. Lancaster (president) presiding. There were also present Alessrs E. P. C. Swainson, F. Gorton, H. A. Stowart, B. AlcLeod, B. H. Johnston, W. Stewart, Al. Henson, L. J. Wild, D. W. Beid, W. G. Booth, D. Whisker, J.Hart, J. Knight, G. Al. Moflitt and A. C. Buist. A welcome was extended to Air. D. S. Hart, recently elected to the committee, representing tho Feilding Young Farmers’ Club. The Clydesdale Horse Society of New Zealand wrote welcoming the association as a member and intimating that the society’s silver medal will be available for competition at the next Feilding Show. The Northern Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes wrote agreeing to organise a display for the next show. Tho Alanawatu-Oroua Eiectrie Power Board wrote donating £2 2s for tho electric oven cooking class.—Eeceived with thanks. A donation was received from Messrs Hodder and Tolley, Ltd., of £2 2s for the fat iamb classes.—Eeceived with thanks. Alessrs T. J. Edmonds, Ltd., wrote donating goods to the value of 35s for the cookery classes.—Keceived with thanks.

The Alanawatu Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Club wrote donating £l2 towards prize money for special classes. —Received with thanks.

Reporting on the district fat lamb export competition, Air. Alofiitt said that tho success of this year’s show was largely duo to the efforts of the secretary, Aliss D. Miller, whoso persuasive powers had undoubtedly influenced the record entries. Tho organisation was splendid and the speaker was well satisfied that the competitijn was quito the best yet. Supporting Air. Alofiitt, Air. Booth said every credit was duo to Messrs Borthwiek and Son for tho uso of the works and for the generous co-operation of the staff. Mr. Bcid spoke of tho help, received from the meat inspectors who had volunteered to give impromptu lectures on diseases in stock. It was decided to forward invitations to the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, tho Prime Alinistor and Alinisters of Land, Agriculture and Defence and the leader of the Opposition to attend the next show. Tho Feilding Young Farmers’ Club

was granted the use of certain equipment for its annual show next month. Executive Committee. The executive committee reported as follows: —The deferred question of an organiser for the 1930 Show was discussed and it is recommended that J\lr. Lange be asked to again undertake the organising and that we obtain an understudy to work with Mr. Lange this coming show. Tenders for the catering, ice cream, sweets and aerated waters rights were considered, and it is recommended that the general committee accept the tender of Mr. isicoi, of Danuevirkc, of £OO covering all the above rights. The linaucial statement for the past two months was perused and as is usual at this time of the year, the expenses are eonsiderabiy m excess of the .oceipts. it is recommended that the accou-.s appearing in the statement be passed for payment. In presenting the report, Mr. L. J. Wild commented on the financial situation which called for a personal and practical interest on the part of members. ILe did not like the idea of the bank overdraft increasing and suggested that the position could be met by an increase in the number of life members. Earn Fair Committee. ' Messrs. B. AlcLeod and AT. ,T. Short were reappointed supervisors and an executive committee consisting of the two supervisors and ALr. H. B. Johnston was set up to deal with urgent matters, The engaging of the necessary labour had been left to the chairman to arrange for. Air. S. J. Fowler was again selected for the position of timekeeper. Alatlers pertaining to the printing and advertising, supply of tin tags, etc., are receiving attention. It is recommended that entries for the fair definitely close on Friday, January 17, with no extension of time. The committee suggests that Air. Boddy be again asked to undertake the granting of extra paddocking accommodation and that the Auctioneers’ Assock/.ion be asked to appoint two of their members to apply to Mr. Boddy for this concession. Also that the Alanawatu Auctioneers’. Association be asked to conduct the next sale under tne usual conditions. . Several .suggestions were placed before the committee for consideration, and it was recommended that the pens of .show sheep be sold immediately after,loo llock rams have gone through the . ring. instead of after the sale of stud sheep. A long discussion took place on the. advisability of increasing the .number of sheep from 20 to 32 in each .run. in the order of ballot, but it was finally decided to make no alteration to the Existing rule. The following new rule was carried:-—That a purchaser of liens of four sheep have the right to take the following pea or pens of that vendor’s run. Senior Stewards. Stewart with power to add. . \Homa IndustrieThe home imtusxnes committee reported as follows:—That the following new classes bo added: A display for afternoon tea party of four, persons; best cold sweet (dessert); preserved vegetables, two bottles; home-made wine, one bottle; tapestry work, coarse; suit of pyjamas, machine-made; pewter work; and in the juvenile section a class for leathervvork. Four classes were deleted as being unpopular. The inclusion of these new classes would entail an extra expenditure of £2 10s, but it was expected that the extra entries would repay this amount. The classes would certainly prove very attractive to the public. It was suggested that Airs. R. Tankersley, of Carterton, be asked to judge the cookery and preserve classes, Airs. W. H. Booth, of Carterton being selected as substitute. For the needlework section, Aliss Murdock, of Feilding, has been appointed, or failing her acceptance, Airs. S. M. Hobbs, of Lower Hutt, or Mrs. W. Rayner, of Alastertou, to be invited to officiate. —Received.
