At a gathering organised by the Palmerston .North branch of the Plunkct Society yesterday a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late. Mrs. F. E. Oollinson was passed in the usual way. What must surely be the king of all lettuces grown this season was shewn to an Otago Daily Times reporter bv the grower, Mr H. Swallow, of Mosgiel. Grown from ordinary seed, this gigantic green left its fellow lettuces far behind, and while they att-.ined only normal size, it developed until it measured twenty-five inches across. The grower is still not sure whether or not it is a freak, and is wonder ing whether he would not hare be. u well advised to allow it to seed, am propagated a new species.
