The Pig Market
WESTFIELD Tho abnormally largo yarding of fat pigs was regarded as the first of a number that should get steadily larger till the peak of tho season. Increased interest iu this class on tho part of dairy farmers and stricter grading is likely to -flood tho market. Butchors were interested in light and medium porkers, which sold at iato rates,' but all heavier pigs, both porkers and baconers, were easier. Stores were not plentiful, and a ready sale again brought good prices. Baconers, 49s to 635; porkers, 34s to 445; large stores, 24s to 295. Prices per lb., baconers 5d to ojd; porkers, 54d to s|d. Prices at sale yards are subject to certain influences. On the one hand there is the cost of soiling, commission and delivery to yards. On tho other, there is too freedom from insurance and freight charges and • thoro is no grading to face. Bows aro selling fairly cheaply at Wanganui, sows with litters making £3 5s to £4 10s, and sows to farrow £1 18s t-o £2 10s.
Store pigs aro dear at Masterton. • Pork is making 5Jd to 6d per lb. at Addington.
