Labour and the Press

SPEECHES FULLY REPORTED

MR. FORBES ON FAIKNESS OF PUBLICITY Per Press Association. EANGtORA, Last Night. At Rangiora to-night Mr. Forbes spoke bluntly about Labour criticism not getting a fair deal in the Press of the Dominion. No charge of the sort could bo made and lie thought out Press had been very fair. “You’ve been able to read all about what Mr. Jlislop has been saying and been reading about what Mr. Savage has been saying for tho last six months during a long part of which time no Government member hay taken to the platform. He has had a full run. “I guarantee," Mr. Forbes said, “that ho has had double or trcblo the amount of space I have had." The newspapers did their best to place before tho people tho weaknesses of any statement made by any party. That was tllcir duty. He did not know whether it was on account of the newspapers seeing dangers in the Labour policy that Labour had been criticising them.

“In ‘The Standard, \ the Labour paper, you will see nothing favourable to the Government at all, nothing Pul onesided abuse of Mr. Coates and myself. They should not squeal about any thing said against them. What chance had the Government got to see anything about themselves in that paper. No Labour Partj would give any freedom in its publicity."
