Swimming Season is Due
LOCAL CLUB’S FINANCES ARE STRONG. The committeo of the Pahiatua Swimming Club met on Tuesday night under tho chairmanship of Mr. J. A. Walsh and tho secretary (Mr. W. R. Richardson) reported tho finances showed a credit of approximately £ll, despite the fact that no subsidy whatever was received from tho Borough Council last season. Tho baths were officially open for 18 weeks, the longest period on record. It was agreed to call applications immediately, for the position of caretaker and to hold tho annual meeting on Friday night next at 8 p.m., in the Borough Council Chambers. The suggestion was mado that tho executive committeo bo limited to seven or uino iii future, as in tho past it had been too unwieldy. It was decided to recommend to tho annual mooting that the executive committeo in future bo limited to seven mombers, including tho president, secretary and treasurer (cx ofiieio). The president intimated that he intended to relinquish liis position as president, much to tho regret of tho meeting. Mr. Walsh said he had held that office for 22 years and ho paid a tribute to tho wonderful loyalty of tho officers, liis main interest had been the encouragement of swimming amongst the children and in .this rospect tho club liad a remarkable record. In .londoriug his resignation ho wished the club every success for tho future. Those present expressed regret at losing Mr. Walsh’s services ahd said he had done a lot for the young people of Pahiatua.
