Rongotea

From Our Own Correspondent. Tho Methodist Sunday school anniversary was celebrated on Sunday, and showed again bow deep rooted is tho movement, which had ■ its beginnings in tho homo of tho late Mr T. Coker, on Taipo road, Rongotea, 65 years ago. It is usual for anniversary Sunday to find oldtime scholars and friends gathering to enjoy tho re-union, and take part in tho services which aro marked by tho joyous singing of tho children and eloquent messages of the preachers. The day was showery, with an absence of sunshine, but the Church was filled at all services and tho children, assisted by tho choir, rendered special music under the leadership of Mr Colin Hunt. Miss M. Hunt presided at tho organ. At the morning and afternoon services Rev. Mr Brown (of Foxton) was tho speaker. An intimate acquaintance during his boyhood with a smugglers’ cave in tho South of England, formed the subject of Mr Brown’s talk to tho children in tho morning. It appealed to all. In tho evening Rev. R. E. Fordyce was tho preacher. It was felt that tho day was a groat success, a good spirit prevailing throughout. Tho friends of Mr J. Gould, of Rongotea, will be pleased to learn that ho has returned homo from a, lengthy stay in a private hospital iu Palmerston North, and that ho is much improved in health.
