! feilding branch meeting * The annual meeting, of the Feilding I branch, of the British Music Society ► was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. J. I G. Eliott (president) presiding. I The report staled that the society ► was resuscitated in April last and dur- ► i l; g the season the membership exeeed- ► cd° all previous records, being augment- ► cd from 17 to 33. Six resignations were J received. Monthly-meetings have been ► held at the homo of Mr. and Mrs. J. ► G. Eliott to whom the society was J greatly indebted. For the benefit of ► non-performers a Glee Club was estab- * lished under the capable supervision of £ Miss E. N. Taylor and this proved a ► welcome variation to the monthly pros, grammes. The concert held on Octo- ► ber 30 last produced a profit of £S (is [ and the credit balance for the period ► under review totalled £l7 19s. At This £ concert marked the first at which the l entire programme was' contributed by [ the talent of the society and it was ► hoped that members would endeavour l to excel their splendid performance. ► The vacancy on tho committee caused l by the resignation of Mrs. Bigham was ► filled by the election of Mr. J. Pearce. ► Thanks were duo to the members of ► tho committee for the splendid co-opee- ► ation which had helped largely in the success of the season. The election of officers resulted as i follows: —President, Mr. J. G. Eliott; secretary and treasurer, Miss M. Hausr maim; committee, Misses E. M. Taylor, | M. Armour, L. Geary, D. Whitehead, M. Garrett and Mr. J. Pearce, r The meeting accorded a voto of | thanks to Miss Hausmann the secretary, } for her services.
Thanks were ‘also voted to Miss Taylor for forming the Gleo Club. It was decided that the 1936 season commence in March and that tho meetings tako place on the second Tuesday in each month. Following the meeting members contributed a programme of musical numbers, as follows:—-Miss D. Whitehead (pianoforte solo, “6th Hungarian Rhapsody,'’ List, and Brahms Waltz); Mrs. Farmer and Miss B. Eliott (double violin concerto, 3rd Movement Vivaldi Concerto in A Minor); Miss M. Armour (musical monologue, “ 'Umpteenth Serial Picture’’ and “In the Rain’’); Glee Club (“Fairy Queen’’ and “April Weather’’); Mrs. Eliott and Misses Eliott and Hausmann (instrumental trio, “Movcllctem,” Garde);
Misses Taylor and Armour (pianoforte duet, “Overture to Midsummer’s Night Dream,’’ Mendelssohn); Mr. J. McDonald (vocal solo, “Clothes of Heaven,” Thus. Dunhill);, Miss Hausmann (’cello solo, “Aprcs Un Revo, ’ Gubicillc Enure). Tho competition held during the evening was won by Miss Taylor. During the evening a presentation comprising a set of book ends was made to Mr. and -Mrs. Eliott in appreciation of tho hospitality extended members for the monthly meetings held during the season. The presentation was made by Mr. Pearce who acknowledged the generous help given by Mr. and Airs. Eliott. Mr. Eliott suitably replied, remarking that he and Mrs. Eliott derived considerable pleasure from tho evenings promoted by members. Tho following were present: Mr. and Mrs. Eliott, Air. and Airs. A. Farmer, Mrs. Hassell, Aliases M. Garrett, D. Whitehead, E. At. Taylor, M. Armour, D. Hunt, L. Geary, A:L. Green, B. Eliott, K. Green, A, Lyne, D. Foster, N. Guthrie, D. and N. Hausmann, At. Morphy, and Messrs J, and S. Pearce, M. Piraui, C. Simmons and J. McDonald.
