From Our Own Correspondent. Tennis Committee Meets. The Tennis Club committee met on Monday evening to discuss details in connection with the new court, and the dance which is to be held on December 11. It-was reported that the actual concreting had been completed and it now remained to erect the wire netting and build gates. It was decided to erect some temporary seating accommodation also. After some discussion the meeting resolved that the official opening should be held on Saturday, December 7, and that Hon. J. G. Cobbe be invited to perform the opening ceremony. In order to discuss a proposed change in the rules and also the matter of colouring the new court, it was decided to hold a general meeting of members on Wednesday evening, 20th inst. Discussing the dance of the 11th of next month it was decided to engage a first class orchestra and to run buses from Palmerston North and Marton. Full details will be advertised in the “Times.” It was unanimously decided that the dance be held in Halcombe’s new Jubilee hall, it being the first entertainment of its class to be held in that hall. Government Supporters’ Meeting.
The supporters of Hon. J. G. Cobbe with Mr T. Vile in the chair, met on Saturday night to discuss matters in connection with the forthcoming election. Information with regard to postal and absentee voting was tabled and arrangements made to ensure tht all supporters of Mr Cobbe should register their votes. A scrutineer was appointed and a final meeting will be held on Friday evening when arrangements for conveying voters to the polling place will be made.
