Control of Cricket In the Manawatu
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE DEALS WITH VAKIOUS MATTERS
The Manawatu Crisket Association’s management committeo met last evening, Mr. A. M. Ongley presiding. Others present were Messrs E. J. Werry, G. Griggs, N. Gallichan, J. R. Hardie, R. S. Warwick, E. Hubbard, E. Weir and R. A. Brace (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr. W. 11. Wilson.
Several clubs applied for registration and the re-grading of players, all requests being given effect to. Coaching Fee Reduced.
Y.M.C.A. wrote making suggestions which, in their opinion, would, if put into effect, make for more efficient coaching. Ono contention was that it was not reasonable to send 20 players for a two-hour session and that Mr. Wheatley should not bo required to coach more than fivo players an hour.
The chairman observed that the number of players sent to net practice was really/ a matter for the clubs but he moved that the coaching fee be reduced to half-a-crown an hour. Tho letter was received and the chairman’s motion carried. Games With Outside Teams.
Victoria University wrote asking for a match at Paimerston North on December 25 and 26. —In view of the fact that Manawatu is liable to bo called upon to play a Hawke Cup match on these dates, it was resolved to reply offering to play University on any date 3 other than those suggested or January 1, 2 and 3. It was also decided to write Horowhenua and Eeilding stating that in view of the fact that the trial match was being played in Palmerston North on December 13 and 14, that the proposed matches between Manawatu teams and Horowhenua and Feilding teams be played on December 14. Hawke Cup Conditions.
Reporting on the conference, the chairman said that the remit advocat-
ing tlio appointment of outside umpires for Hawke Cup matches had been lost, but that provision had been made for play on a fourth day if required to roach a first innings decision. Nominations For Trial Game. The matter of nominating players to represent Manawatu in the trial match was referred to Air. Ongley with power to act. It was also decided that the match bo played on the oval and that application be mado for authority to make a gate charge of Is. The chairman ma.de mention of the many services rendered Alauawmtu cricket by Air. J. H. Phillipps, of Wellington, and ho moved that in recognition of these services Air. Phillipps be invited to attend the trial country match as the guest of the Alanawatu Cricket Association. The suggestion met with unanimous approval and the motion was carried. Primary School Coaching. Air. Warwick, reporting on the ar-' rangements for the coaching of primary school cricketers, stated that the schools who would attend for practice next Saturday were Terrace End and Alilson (first hour) and Ilokowhitu and West End (second hour). High School-Wanganui Collegiate. At the request of Air. Worry, High School was granted permission to play Wanganui Collegiate on the High School ground on December 27. More Honorary Members. Thirteen honorary members were elected and the secretary made mention of several donations. Fixtures For Saturday. Following are the fixtures for Saturday:— Senior. United (m) v. Palmerston, No. 2 ground; High School (m) v. Old Boys, High School ground; Y.AI.C.A. (m) v. City Council, No. 1 ground. Junior A. Continuation of games commenced last Saturday. Junior B.
Kiwi (m) v. United, North Street Park; Old Boys (m) v. H. L. Young’s, No. 5 Sportsground; Y.AI.C.A. (m) v. Combined Services, No. 6 Sportsground.
