A Screen Romance Supreme Is Scheduled

DELIGHTFUL LOVE STORY OF MIMI AND RODOLOPHE

(Regent: Thursday week)

British International Pictures’

delightful production “Mimi,”. a modern adaption of Murger’s famous play “La Vie de Boheme,’’ costarring Gertrude Lawrence and Douglas Fairbanks, Jnr., and produced under the direction of Paul Stein, the genius who gave you “Blossom Time” is scheduled for screening locally.

“Mimi” is the love story of Rodolphe, a young ambitious playwright struggling for fame in the garrets of Paris, and of Mimi, darling of the Latin quarter. And in all the world no love like theirs. An early scene in this unforgettable film is in the Cafe Des Canettes, rendezvous of carefree artists, philosophers, and poets. The cafe is crowded to-night for an old favourite has returned. Mimi is back—back to sing for them again. And the words of Mimi’s song “Love Over All'’—beautiful words—are engraven deep on her heart.

The sudden bliss of Rodolphc’s first kiss opened to them a love that has become the symbol of romance—the inspiration of lovers for a generation. The true beauty and tenderness of their love lias been woven into tho most glorious romance the screen has unfolded—the sweetest triumph motion pictures have yet enjoyed.

That this world-known romance conies to the screen as beautiful and unspoiled as from the pen of its author, is a tribute to the genius of the director and to the courage and faith of the creators of to-day’s motion picture. The settings of “Mimi” are particularly artistic and enhanced by clever lighting and camera-work, quite tho equal to anything ever seen on the screen. The most notable pagentry is the lavishy staged Venetian ball, where a gay spirited crowd emphasises the prevailing Bohemianism.

Y t Not so very long ago, Mr and Mrs [( j G. F. Temple, Shirley Temple's pa and iq ma, took out a 25,000 dollar accident policy on their six-year-old screen star . daughter. Since wary U.S. insurance • s men turn down such a risk on the child, l 0 a syndicate of British companies underm wrote the policy putting in these two special clauses: (1) Cinemactress Tcm- -- pie must not take up arms in defense ts of her country. (2) The policy will be :r voided if she meets death or accident g while intoxicated. Y
