Cricket in Feilding
SEASON TO OPEN ON SATURDAY CONTROL OF KOWHAI PARK The first meeting of the newlyelected management committee of the Feilding Cricket Association was held on Monday night when it was decided to commence the new season’s competitions on Saturday next. Mr L. J. Wild (president) presided and there were also present Messrs T. Donaldson (secretary), G. J. Fitzpatrick, M. Barltrop, Z. McLeod and 'L. Whitehead, as well as Messrs W. H. McLean and C. B. McCluro representing the Kowhai Park Committee. Further to the discussion which took place at the recent annual meeting of the association on tho question of the upkeep of Kowhai park for cricket purposes, it was resolved to arrange for a deputation to wait on the Borough Council with the proposal that the council agree to take over the work of maintaining tho grounds and wickets during tho season, the association to pay £3O as its share of the cost. Messrs Wild, McLean and Donaldson were appointed to meet the council on the subject. It w T as decided to accept the invitation of tho Manawatu Association to play a friendly match at Palmerston North on Monday next (Labour Day), and in regard to the invitation from the Eangiwahia-Oroua Sub-Asso-ciation for a match on that date at Mangarimu, it was decided that this would have to be regretfully refused owing to difficulties in fielding two teams. Tho matter will bo considered later in the season.
Mr Fitzpatrick rvas appointed sole selector for 'the season.
Tho Mayor (Mr T. Collins) wrote accepting the position of patron of the association.
It was agreed to arrange for the attendance of two delegates at a meeting of the Manawatu Association to discuss tho rules governing the competition for the Goldfinch and Cousins cup. The meeting agreed to adopt tbn new leg-before-wicket rule ana to advise umpires of the position. The following fixtures for.the opening games of the competition were approved: — A Grade: Feilding v. Colyton, No. 1 wicket; Public Service v. Old Boys, No. 2 wicket.
B Grade: High School A'v. Wesley, No. 3; Feilding v. High School B, at High School grounds; Sandon v. Old Boys, No. 4 wicket.
