From Our Own Correspondent. The monthly meeting of the Opiki Women’s Institute was held on October 16. Mrs O. Wilde presided over an attendance of 21 members. The motto for the day was: “Know thyself said the old philosopher, improve thyself said the new.” The correspondence received included the resignation of Miss G. D. Cooksley from the position of honorary treasurer. Two new committee members were appointed to till vacancies, these being Mrs W. Jackson and Mrs W. White. Miss K. Ellery has taken over the position of treasurer. The president expressed thanks to the garden circle members for their work in connection with the flower show held recently. Congratulations were offered Mrs Wisnewski, who had won tho points cup in the cut blooms section. It was decided to hold a concert and dance in November to raise funds for the W.I. Members are asked to _ plant their potato seed for tho competition as soon as possible. Tho Christmas tree for members’ children will be held in December as in the previous year. Mrs J. Hansen gave the Opiki W.I. report at the federation meeting at Bulls on Monday. A demonstration on the making of a dressmaker's model was given during the aftornoon by Miss 11. Johnston, holder of the Sarah Anne Rhodes scholarship. Fifteen ladies interested are to attend stud.V classes on October 21 and 22 fpr making models, dress-making, designing and pattern drafting, etc. Mrs G. Earsen returned thanks to the Speaker for her instructive demonstration. This was carried by acclamation and all • wish that Miss Johnston's time was not so limited. Afternoon tea was handed round by the hostesses, Mrs J. Cooksley, Mrs J. D. Aitchison, Misses Carson and Ellery. The competition for the best banner design was judged by Miss Johnston and resulted Mrs B. Norman 1, Mrs W. Jackson 2 and Miss L. Carson 3. The hostesses for the November meeting will be Mesdames Gregory, G. Yule, J. Percy and .I,’ Hansen,, .
