Two Thousand Pounds Awaits a Claimant
MYSTERY OF ART UNION FIRST PRIZE WINNER
Either the winner of the £2OOO in the "Better Prizes" art union, drawn on Tuesday, has proved an adept at hiding his identity, or ho does not know of his good fortune. Hundreds, even thousands, of Palmerstonians are anxious to oiler him their congratulations, and not a few business people are ready to show him the very best of suits, radios and motor-cars, while one laud agent at least has the very house that lie must have been dreaming of purchasing ‘‘when his ship came home.” But llic difficulty all these enthusiastic people arc up against is that they don’t know into which port the golden argosy has sailed. However, if Ihe lucky purchaser of the winning ticket is not known, (he agent who sold it is, but the only help he can give in solving (lie riddle is that lie sold it to someone who signed himself ‘‘Finance.” Or it may even be a woman, for he Jinds he has as many women customers as men. Now :it happens that more than one ticket-holder in Palmerston North seemingly used that nom do plume. Unfortunately, in the case of a wellknown city plumber, ho cannot locate his ticket though lie must have spent a great deal of grey matter trying to recall where he put it, and probably is smitten with much anxiety lest the illusive fortune should slip from his grasp. However, he says that by a lucky thought lie inked Iris Huger and impressed a finger-print on the butt of the ticket ho took, and now an emissary has gone post-liaste to AVeilington to sec if the butt of the winning ticket is so marked. Rumour yesterday associated one or another of Palmerston North’s 20,000odd citizens with the first prize winner, but in ah' cases the answer to a reporter’s inquiry was, ‘‘No such luck!”
