Lecture on Abyssinia

AT FEILDING BAPTIST CHURCH A lecture on Abyssinia was given at the Fending Baptist Church on Tuesday evening by Mr C. H. Barton, of tho Sudan Interior Mission. Rev. 11. W. Page presided. Mr Burton, who was a pioneer missionary for live and a-half years in tho interior of Ethiopia, gave a most interesting and informative* address on the life, customs, history and habits of the people away up in the highlands of Abyssinia. The Gospel of Christ was making headway among this primitive people, who responded to the medical and other treatment at the hands of tho medical and other missionaries. Speaking of tho Ethiopians in the event of warfare, Mr Barton said tho invaders would have a hard nut to crack, for tho highlands were almost inaccessible and the natives were exceedingly skilled in bush warfare. The ravines made tho country very difficult to travel through, so that ’an invasion w’ould be a slow process towards conquest. Many pictures from photographs illustrated tho address, the lantern being operated by Mr Whitehead. A vote of thanks was carried by hearty acclamation on the motion of the chairman.
