Terrace End School Committee’s Work

GENERAL MATTERS DEALT WITH,

Matters affecting the welfaro of the Terrace End School were dealt with at a meeting of tlio committee held last evening.

There wore present: Messrs. W. B. Tennent(in the chair), E. G. Beunott, J. Davidson, J. H. Nash and H. Blackwood (secretary).

Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Messrs. C. B. Luke, J. K. Paton and E. C. Donald. The headmaster (Mr. A. \V. Thompson) reported: — Tho number on the roll is 620, Daily attendances have gradually improved, until yesterday 601 pupils wero present. This represents tho best percentage of attendance experienced this year. Two cases of mumps have been reported recently. Tho roll at the hospital class is 12. During tho month Messrs. Crawford and-Brown, of tho. Kia Toa Football Club, visited the school and ‘presented Keith Kitcliing with a miniature cup as being the most improved player for tho season. Messrs. Fitzherbcrt and Small, representing the Eongotea Life-saving Society, also attended and presented tho life-saving awards gained lust season (primary certificates 23, elementary 19, proficiency 11 and bronzo medallions 4). Winter games havo ended, and in football tho school has had a most successful season. Tho senior team (coached by Messrs. Pryor and Cutler) tied with Convent, tho junior A team (under Mr. Morinc) won tho junior competition and tho midgets (coached by. Mr. Schwarz) won tho Millar and Giorgi Cup for tho fourth time in succession. Although no honours camo to tho girls in their basketball competitions many enjoyable games were played and our congratulations are extended to the winning schools; Bussell Street and Central.”—Tho report was adopted, pleasure being expressed at tho increase in attendance. Leters of thanks and congratulation are to be sent to those mentioned in the statement. Mrs. Anderson is to be written to, thanking her for a box of seedlings. Various matters brought forward by tho visiting committee aro to receive attention. , . ' It was resolved to hold the gala day on December 4 (or later if tho elections aro held then), tho concert on December 13 and tho picnic during February—tho date to bo decided later. Tho committee is to play its annual match against a school cricket eleven on December 11.
