EWE’S SIX LAMBS

A Scottish Record A Scottish fann paper of May 11 reports that a ewe belonging to . W. and G. Murray, Mains of Shiels, Belhelvie, recently gave birth to six lambs, all of which “aTe doing well.” The same paper records that a Border Leicester ewe, owned by Mr. Samuel Davidson, Tarves, has produced 24 lambs in eight years 1 As a hogget in IS2B she gave.-birth to twins, three each year from 1920 to 1933, four in 1934, and three this year. A photograph of the ewe with this year : s crop appears in the newspaper. Such feats as the latter do not occur in New Zealand, as ewes are not carried sufficiently into old age to present the opportunity, though merinos have frequently been carried along with single contributions until well in their ’teens. The six lamb ewe has had no parallel in New Zealand as far as published records go, but there have been occasional instances of five laihbs. One such was in South Otago some years ago, but they did not "all do well.”
