Overwhelming German Vote At Memel
The General Election
HEAVY POLL RECORDED United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 9.20 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 1. The Times says the population of Memel are calmer and the booths were orderly. Voting was very slow, averaging twenty minutes. A 96 per cent, poll is expected to show an overwhelming German preponderance, although observers declare that Lithuanians were admitted through the back doors while the Germans were forced to queue up.
LABOUR OPPONENT TOR MR. JORBES ME. D. C. DAVIE CHOSEN The national executive of Die New Zealand Labour parly has endorsed the candidature of Mr. D. C. Davie for the Hurunui scat against tho Prime Minister (Et. Hon. G. W. Forbes). Mr. Davie is president of the Sumner branch of the Labour party, and had a farm in the Hurunui electorate for many years. A large and enthusiastic meeting of Mr J. A. Nash's committee was held on Monday evening, Mr A. J. Graham presiding.
