From Our Own Correspondent. A successful series of euhre, ping- pong; ana dance parties held in aid of the i’ohangina Ping Fong and BasKetball Clubs, concluded on Friday evening. The attendance was a record for the series, the commodious hail being none too Jarge lo accomodate the patrons. An enjoyable evening was spent, b<? all. Miss F. Brocking won the honours in the ladieseuchre tournament, Miss Harkness being awarded tho consolation prize. In the men’s section. Mr A. Wills gained first place, and Mr F. .Roberts annexed the consolation award. Trophies lor the season’s aggregate were awarded as follows: Ladies.—Mrs Wood, £7 points, 1; Mrs Thompson, 86 points, 2. Men.—Mr J. T. Hoar, 36 points, 1; Mr H. Moar, lit) points, 2. Competition was again keen in the ping pong tournament, honours going to Miss Hughes, of Palmerston North, with Mr V. Montgomery', a bye. Final: Miss Hughes beat V. Montgomery. The trophies were presented by Mr A. E. Orgias, who said that the series had been enjoyable and popular. On behalf of the members of the clubs he thanked all those who had assisted with special mention of Mr D. Turnbull, who controlled the ping pong section. Mr L. Wagstaff, who performed similar duties in the card room, and Mr G. Wagstaff who carried out tho duties of doorkeeper and M.C. Tho thanks of the clubs, continued the speaker, were also extended to the ladies’ committee headed by the Misses Klink for supper, and to Mr Bramwell for officiating at the piano. Mr G. Wagstaff expressed the club members’ appreciation of Mr and Mrs Orgias’ kindly interest in both clubs, and also thanked Mr and' Mrs Orgias and Mr J. Dawson for presenting trophies. After supper had been served, the floor was cleared for dancing, spirited music being supplied by Mr E. Bramwell. Extra dances were contributed by Messrs W. Anderson and G. Thompson, Mr G. Wagstaff carrying out the duties of M.C. Arrangements are well in hand for the ping pong club’s annual dance 5 which takes place on Friday evening. Always one of the social successes of the season, .the members are sparing no trouble to ensure that this year’s function will be fully up to standard. Full details are advertised in these columns.
