School Boys in Road Race

RUSSELL STREET EVENT The annual road race for pupils of Russell Street School was held yesterday afternoon over a three-mile course, commencing at tho school and proceeding along Peatherstonc and Ruahinc streets, Boundary road, Roy street and Matamau street, back to tue school.

The teams were representative of the school clubs and consisted of 13 boys. The winner was J. Adamson (Huias), 14min. lOsec., with A. Steedman (Rovers) second in 14min. -lOsec., and D. James (Kiwis) third in 15min. 30sec. Tho club points were: —Rovers 193, Kiwis 176, liuias 173 and Rangers BS. The personnel of the Rovers was as folloiv: —A. Steedman (capt.), R. Walker, A. Wasley, P. Steedman, G. Proctor, W. Pringle, E. Perry, G. Heald and R. Hardman.

The official's were: —Starter, Mr F. 0. Campbell; conductor, Mr B. Brown; recorders, Misses Tankersley and Curry; Scouts, A. Petrie and D. Harris; marshals, L. Smith and B. Falknor. The chairman of the school committee, Mr J. A. Grant, and other committeemen were present for the occasion and the thanks of the contestants aroydue to the. chairman for refreshments at the close of the event.
