Having failed to reach a new industrial agreement with Martha Gold Mining Co., Waihi, Ltd., the employees at a mass meeting decided to serve the company with seven days’ notice to cease work on Monday, October 7tli, at midnight. A resolution was also passed expressing appreciation and conlidcnce i? the efforts of the Union delegates to bring about a settlement. The decision has caused general uneasiness in the town, but it is anticipated the; coutereuce betwcu the disputants within tho next few days and that a settlement will be arrived at. The number of men involved will be about 650, of whom approximately 490 aro employed in and about the Waihi mine and the balance at the-company’s battery at Waikino.
