FACTS about the BIBLE

In the Revised Version of I Kings 6:1, reference is made to the fact that Solomon began to build the temple in-‘‘the month Ziv” (a word which is—less cor-rectly-spelled “Zif” in our Common Version). “Ziv” was the second month of the ecclesiastical year, and included parts of both April and May; while the derivation of the word is decidedly appropriate since it is taken as meaning ‘ ‘ the month of flowers. ’ ’ This passage in I Kings is the only Biblical verse in which we find the title “Ziv,” though references to ‘‘the second month” are relatively common. Thus it was on the first of this month that Moses was commanded to take a census of the Israelites in tho second year after their exodus from Egypt (Nm. I:lf.); while on the twentieth day of the same month the “cloud” rose “from off the tabernacle” and guided the children of Israel toward the “wilderness of Paran” (Num. 10:Ilf.; cf, 9:17f.) (These facts are published daily.)
