lCrom Oar Own Correspondent. Library Subscribers' Meeting. Tho annual meeting- of Lho subscribers Of tho Clifton Public Library was held in Bulls on Wednesday night. Sir F. A. Holland presiding’ over a good attendance. Tho report for the year read as under: Under tho new scheme of work tho subscribers have increased from 22 to ■IS. During its term of oflico tho committee has indexed and catalogued the books, tho purchase of which has been somewhat limited owing to tlio- uncertainty of tho money available from subscriptions, but this will not present any diikeulty to the new committee. In all (i'i books were purchased and 27 donated. Owing to tho resignation of Mrs Hillior. the town board appointed Miss K. Broughton to tho position of librarian, and their choico proved a happy one for tho latter proved a courteous, obliging and helpful custodian of the books. Mr C. M. Broughton was not available during the whole term, and his valuable counsel as chairman has been missed. The thanks of tho subscribers are due to him lor keeping the library going through somo very lean times hints history. Many subscribers availed themselves of ' tho suggestion book, and the committee regrets that they wero unable to buy all tho books suggested owing to certain circumstances. The committee considers the library will maintain its position, and urges the subscribers to induce others to join up, pointing out that the hours for exchange of books included two extra evenings. The following committee was appointed for the ensuing term: Mesdames Escott, C. W. Farrer, D. Bundy, Miss Ede, Miss Flavell, and Messrs S. Rich, W. A. Churchill and F. F. Ralfe, with Mr. F. A. Holland, town board nominee as chairman. Rangitikei Men’s Golf Club. Men of the Rangitikei Golf Club played a llag competition on Saturday last and the winner was F. S. Collier, who placed the flag within six inches of the cup on tho 19Ih green, T, R. Willis being second. Polo Season Comes Round. Tito annual meeting of tho Rangitikei Polo Club took place in Bulls on Tuesday evening, Mr R. A. Wilson presiding. Apologies were received from Messrs Duncan brothers (1), Ruanui, and Parson brothers, I’atea, and R. Tricker. The following ollicers were elected: Patron, Mr K. W. Dairymple; president, Mr R. A. Wilson; club captain, Mr R. D. McKelvie; lion, secretary, Mr R. O. Dally mpie; committee, Messrs W. W. Wilson, R. K. Simpson, J. G. Wilson and Q. O. Wilson. Reference was made to tlio services rendered last year by Mr._K. M. Little, of Feilding, who acted as coach and referee, and it was decided to forward him a letter of appreciation, asking if his services would be available again this season. Practice games will start in November, and the official opening will take place on the first Saturday of the New Year. Mr W. J. Willis was elected a member of the club. With, the apparent keenness being displayed by members prospects for lho season appear to be very bright. Parewanui School Dance.

The town hall was well filled on Thursday night for the danco run in aid of the Parewanui school funds, two bus loads from Marton adding to an already largo assembly of dancers and card players. The winners of tho euchre were Mrs Clark (Marton) and Mr D. Bromley. 4 Mon to Carlo waltz was won by Mrs F. J. Shapleski and Mr T. Penman, of Marton. Mr J. H. Russell, of Parewanui won a competition for a turkey. During the evening Miss P. Bromley and Mr F. Gedson gavo a foxtrot exhibition, which was greatly appreciated. Tlio committee proposes to hold another function in Bulis in about six time.
