“PORGOTTEN MEN ’ ’ PROPAGANDA AGAINST BATTLE AND STRIFE
(Kosy: Coming Saturday Week.)
1 ‘forgotten Men” is a British propaganda film made -with the express intention of demonstrating the horrors of war in an endeavour to make our nation peace-minded. It has spared nothing, and many of the scenes taken of actual battles in the Great War, which were hitherto kept secret in the Government archives at Home, are cruel and almost gruesome in their vivid realism.
Every phase of the war is touched [upon. During attacks we are shown | men of all nations being ruthlessly shot .down/ an actual bayonet attack with [ hand-to-hand lighting is included with all its blood-thirsty realism, battlefields strewn with dead are depicted, huge guns are seen laying barrages for the troops, and so it goes on. Tko war at sea and the tremendous havoc played amongst the merchant service by German submarines is pictured most dramatically, and incidentally, in these shots there is a Lusitania sequence. Finally, wo are shown tho aftermath of tho war that was to end all wars. There is a running commentary throughout by Sir John Hammerton, tho famous British war historian who
lias with him in his sequence representatives of tho fighting forces 1914-IS. These include decorated officers, and each in turn gives a short version of what ho went through, and speaks against any future warfare.
