Ratana Candidates on Tour

TYPICAL MAORI METHODS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Orakci native village was on fete when it received a visit from the Maori leader, Wiremu Ratana, accompanied by Mr. E. T. Tirilratene, M.P.. for the Southern Maori seat. Tho Ratana candidates for the three other Maori seats and a large retinue, including a band from Ratana, is making a political tour of tho North Island preparatory to the General Election. Tho party is travelling in four large motor lorries, each bearing Ratana’a star and crescent bad go- on its_ radiator cap, and half-a-dozen motorcars. From Orakci tho party will go on to North Auckland visiting all the principal native settlements and the date of its return appears to be uncertain.

Mr H. Holland Will Again Stand i J er Ureas Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 23. Mr. H. Holland, M.P. for Christchurch North, will contest the seat again in the forthcoming election as the Government candidate. Mr. Holland said to-day that his health had made it doubtful for a time whether lie would be able to stand the strain ot : the campaign, but it had improved so much recently that he was confident that lie could take part ia the election. He thought he would lie able to resume his seat iu the House in about a fortnight.

been yesterday Air. J. Gordon Eliot 1 , stated that he was at present unable to make any announcement concerning the statement that he was about to offer his services to tho electors of Oruua. He admitted that lie was being pressed to contest the seat, but iic had first to consider his business interests and these at. present prevented him from committing himself. 'While appreciating the interest electors were showing in the likelihood of his coming forward, Air. Eliott stated that he could not say anything, one way or the other, until such time as he had concluded some arrangement concerning liia business interests. Mr. Eliott expects to proceed to Wellington to-day to discuss the question further.
