Anxiety Over Campbell Black

The absence of reports from Campbell Black since he passed over Wadi Haifa en route to the Cape is causing anxiety as his petrol supply thereafter would have lasted only 11 hours. Ho returned to the coast where he was fortunate in attracting the attention of a steamer in which he reached Asscin, where ho communicated with Rangoon in consequence of which a relief plane was despatched. In the meantime the remainder of the crew spent .the night alongsido the crashed plane, menaced by wild animals, snakes and unfriendly natives. The latter scattered upon the arrival of a rescue plane and afterwards held a poojah prayer meeting to rid the island of the evil influence of the birdmen. Lithuanian Crosses Atlantic BUT CRASHES IN IRELAND LONDON, Sept. 23. Lieut. Felix Waitkus crossed the Atlantic en route to Lithuania and crashed at Rallinrobe, County JSlayo. He struck a tree, but was unhurt. He said that the weather -was bad most ot the time, and he had to fly blind. The weather became worse as ho approached the' Irish coast and he was very tired. Petrol ran low, so he circled and. spotted a field, but the machine struck a bush and overturned. Hopes to Continue MACHINE TO BE REPAIRED (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 22. Lieut. Waitkus, who is a Lithuanian airman attached to the United States Navy, hopes to continue his flight when bi 3 machine has been repaired. He gays that but for the Free State radio instructions hourly from Athletic he could not have held,his cours« Air Mail 24 Hours Late Received Monday, 9.50 p.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 23. The Postal Department advises that the incoming Imperial air mail is running 24 hours late. It will not arrive at Darwin until next Saturday.
