From Our Own Correspondent. Defence Rifle Club. ; The Ashhurst Defence Rifle .Club - fired a further practice shoot last Saturday, 18 taking part in shoots over 300 and 500 yards. Weather conditions, were fair but a changing front wind caused a good deal of worry to most of the markstileh. , The Broadlands men were, having their last regular practice this, season and challenged teams from the rest of the clUb. The results were Broadlands 375, Ashhurst I 275, Ashhurst A 275. The best score at 300 yards was Ken Romley 31 and at 500 yards J. Searle and Ken Romley 33. Tho following comprised the teams:— Broadlands: Roy Romley 63, AV. G. Romley 53, C. Turner 56, C. Ralph 53, N. McKenzie -18, total 275. Ashhurst 1: Ken Romley 64, C. Thomson 53, W. N. Brewer 56, Mrs R. A. Jones '53, It. Doreen 44, total 275. Ashhurst A: J. Searle - 61, F. Bassett 57, tf. J. Brookie 56, R. A. Jones 55, S. Dawe 45, total 274. Detailed scores were as follow: Ken Romley 31,: 33,- 64; Roy Romley 30, 32, 62; J'. Searle 28. 33. 61; C. Thomson 23, 30, 53; W. G. Romley 30, 28, 58; F. Bassett 28, 20, 57; C. Turner 24, 32, 56; M. Hausemann 27, 29, 56; W. N. Brewer 28, 28, 56; S, J. Brookie 29, 27, 56; R. A. Jones 26, 20, 55; Mrs R. A. Jones 22, 31, 53; C. Ralph 26, 27, 53; N. McKenzie 20, 26, 46; S. Dawe 15, 30, 45; R. Doreen 20, 24, 44. A further practice will be held next week. R.S.A. Dance. Last Friday the local R.S.A. branch held an evening in the town hall. Tho early part of the evening was taken up wiLh tho screening of slides which contained scones taken during the Great War. In welcoming the lax-ge attendance, Rev. I-X. B. Goertz explained that the scenes which were to be screened were actual photos taken in France and elsewhere during tho World War and would givo some idea, to those who had not seen but had heard about the trials and difficulties encountered and overcome by tlie troops. During the screening Mr A. Greaves gave explanations. Mr S. Giishnan officiated as operator. At the conclusion Mr T. Spelman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Greaves. Mr A. Buhner took over for a short period, leading the assembly in a community sing of old war time favourites, at the I conclusion of which supper was served by a large committee of R.S.A. men and lady helpers. Tho dance floor was then cleared when a large number participated to music by a professional orchestra, items wore rendered between dances by Mr C. Stanley (song) and Mr K. Cook, who kept tho dancers amused by balancing a bat on his nose. Mr T. Spelman was M.C. The committee which had been working hard to make the evening a success must feel extremely pleased as the large attendance oaine from Apiti, Utuwai, Feilding, Aokautere, Palmerston North, Tohangina, as well its tho local districts.
